At the tea Estate
Our hill country has many tea estates. Tea grows well on a cool and high slope. They grow in a beautiful row. A tea bush is short and has light green leaves.
Many men and woman work on a tea estate. They till the soil and plant the tiny seedlings on a row. They water them and grow them with care. The tea bush grows big and grren. Then they clip the branches. Then tender green leave buds shoot out. The men and women pluck a lot of these tender buds. They put them in their tea baskets and take them to the tea factory.
The factory pays the men and woman for their work. The factory workers dru the tender buds in hot air. When dry, they grind them in the mills. They take the best tea and pack them in big boxes. They send the boxes to Colombo. They ship the boxes to all countries of the world. Tea bring us a lot of money.
